04-27-24 – Peace, Gardening and Life

Hello Boring Normal Life Readers,

We hope you have had a wonderful week. We got our second podcast completed. We will be doing one this weekend as well. Ben and I have been spending more time out on the deck talking in the container garden.  He is happy there and love to talk when we sit and watch the dogs run around.  Its amazing how warm and caring he is now compared to when we first met. We first got together he was going through a rough time, he was upset and angry a lot. We all got his rage at some point. But now seeing Ben, he is a completely different person. I believe this Ben is the amazing man everyone should get to know and see. Anyway I just wanted to put that out there since we like to document  about our lives.

Now lets get to our topics for this blog.

Work

This week was busy for Ben.  They had a lot of heavy equipment that came through the shop that had rusted together. Ben and his team had to clean them and get them functional again for the field.  He has come to realize that he can only control his attitude about it.  Ben tries to keep everyone in line in a process but it never works for him.  So he just continues doing what he does and comes home. He did a wonderful thing this week, his coworker texted him after a bad day and told him he was going to quit.  Ben responded and spent several hours on the phone talking to him and working it out with him till eventually his coworker decided not to quit.  It was awesome to see Ben help him.  He has a wonderful ability to listen and help others in their times of need.

My work week was short.  We had Friday off for Fiesta.   The experiences at we have seen on the news at college campus nation wide have reminded me of the experiences my parents must have felt while protests were going on about Vietnam. It did not help that the Governor put out a X statement saying students should be expelled for voicing their opinions. It’s frustrating sitting in the middle seeing all this happen.  What happened to having open dialogue?!?  Schools like the governments have rules and regulations a tweet is neither one of these. Students have standards they must abide by just like the faculty and staff. College campuses are where we used to teach young adults, how to be adults in real life.  It’s just hard for everyone. We are lucky on our campus, we work hard to teach our students to communicate and have open dialogue in our classes. I think that is part of the beauty of community colleges, because of the smaller nature of the campus, it allows us to get to know our students instead of them just being a number.

Gardening

Since I was off on Friday, we began planting our potatoes.  It was fun to try planting them again this year. We also moved some of the pea plants onto a trellis to see if they will take to it.  We are going to need to purchase some dirt this weekend so we can plant the tomatoes.  We are hoping those will do well also. The plants from last weekend have germinated.  We have onions, lettuce, and flowers now growing. We also have quite a few Myer Lemons that have started to grow which makes me really excited. I think my next step is to grow some plants in my office at work. I think it will be fun and since I have a window it will be great. Ben loves sitting out here with the plants.  We both do.  Its fun to see the growth and talk about it together.  My first experience gardening was in third grade.  We grew a lima bean in a wet paper towel and sandwich bag.  I honestly have been hooked ever since. Ben loves growing potatoes.  So that is why we are hoping this year they will take.  We have learned from last years mistakes and are going to try again.

Here are some pictures from us gardening yesterday.  Cutlet a little pig who is always getting into trouble was with me during the experience.  One of his brothers, Loin, was with Ben at work.  So he helped me move the peas and gave a pep talk to the potatoes.  I am not sure if it was a pep talk or a threat but either way Ben and I are excited to see what happens.

We hope you all have a wonderful week.  We love you all and give you all virtual hugs.  Stay safe and enjoy the boring normal life.

Love,

M & B
